Intelligent Communications Processor (ICP) boards allow client devices on specialty WANs to access host computers on TCP/IP LANs. For a detailed description, select the ICP below that fits your host environment:

Additional information about installing, programming, and using ICP boards is available in Protogate's downloadable document archive:

A note on ICP board versions:

The below ICP descriptions are provided to help customers who may have used older Simpact equipment in the past.

The following ICP boards are manufactured and supported by Protogate:

  • ICP2432B (PCIx-bus) - This ICP board uses the Motorola ColdFire CPU and is currently the model used in Protogate Freeway server products. When the term "ICP2432" is used in Protogate documentation, it almost always means the ICP2432B version of the ICP board. This ICP board uses Protogate's CAGE CODE 1QYJ2.
  • ICP2432e (PCIe-bus) - This ICP board uses the Motorola ColdFire CPU. This board is similar to the ICP2432B board, except that it fits in a PCIe bus slot. The ICP2432e board runs the exact same protocol software images as the ICP2432B version.

The following obsolete Simpact ICP boards are not supported by Protogate. However, Protogate may still be able to perform hardware repairs on some of these boards. Contact us for more information:

  • ICP2432A (PCI-bus) - This board uses the Motorola 64349 CPU which became obsolete in the late 1990s. Older Simpact documents refer to these as "ICP2432" boards (without the "A" suffix), however Protogate uses the name "ICP2432" to refer to the ICP2432B board which is currently in production. The ICP2432A board uses Simpact's CAGE CODE 9K508.
  • ICP2424 (ISA-bus) - This board uses the Motorola 68340 CPU.
  • ICP6000 (VME-bus) - This board uses the Motorola 68020 CPU.
  • ICP3320 (S-Bus) - This board uses the Motorola 68340 CPU.
  • ICP3232 (VAXBI-bus) - This board uses the Motorola 68020 CPU.
  • ICP3222 (Q-bus) - This board uses the Motorola 68020 CPU.
  • ICP1632 (VAXBI-bus) - This board uses the DEC MICRO/T-11 CPU.
  • ICP1622 (Q-bus) - This board uses the DEC MICRO/T-11 CPU.
  • ICP1600 (UNIBUS) - This board uses the DEC MICRO/T-11 CPU.
